The Cougar Marching Band is a show band that performs at all Varsity Football Games. It consistently performs multiple shows every football season, integrating challenging music, with cutting edge marching and drill techniques.
The Symphonic band has been performing as an audition group since Southview's opening. This year will be competing in Class A at OMEA Large Group Contest.
The Concert Band has been performing as a group since the opening of Southview. This year will be competing in Class C at OMEA Large Group Contest.
Jazz Band ~
The Jazz Band is made up of a standard wind section and rhythm section that meet three days a week from 2:30-3:30pm. Full Ensemble rehearsals are Tuesday/Thursday after school. In addition to full ensemble rehearsals: First Year Jazz Band embers have rehearsal on Mondays and 2-4 Year Jazz Band Members have rehearsal on Wednesdays. All members of the Jazz Band will experience several different styles of jazz, study the history, improvisation, and perform in several different capacities.
The Pep Band performs at home boys/girls basketball games and a hockey game (if the schedule permits) each year. All members of the band program are required to attend a minimum of four games each year. Attendance at all pep band games counts as 1 point towards the band letter.
OMEA Solo & Ensemble
All members are encouraged to participate in the annual Solo and Ensemble Contest. This event, which is usually held in February, is sponsored by the O.M.E.A. The purpose of this contest is to promote and encourage students to improve basic musicianship through solo and small ensemble performances. All participants are required to pay for 1/2 of the entry fee and their accompanist, the Southview Band Boosters cover the remaining cost.
